How To Get Noticed By Google
A Terri-fic Traffic Tip
Not many networkers understand page ranking by Google and even fewer realize that getting traffic first from natural traffic is the most powerful way to get Google attention now.
Once upon a time the way to get Google to notice you was to know all about technical search engine optimization (SEO) That's still important but the very best way to grow your business online is to wave Hi! to Google with your subscribers.
Google Can See You
The reason I have a nice Google page rank of 2 on this front page of my blog is not because of my technical expertise at search engine optimization. I try but I'm definitely not an expert.
A page ranking of 2 is pretty good. A Google page rank of 4 is considered an authority site. When you reach 4, get ready for advertisers to contact you and pay you for letting them post ads on your high ranking site. Cool, huh!
Internet Traffic
When I look at my traffic statistics, I can tell that a lot of visits are not coming from Google searches. Most of them are coming from direct hits or from social media sites. The direct hits are probably from my list.
About onceper week, I will write a post that seems good enough to me to send out via email to my list. People who have either opted in to one of my affiliate programs or have bought ebooks from me. It's not a huge percentage of my list that actually clicks on over here, but about 20% do. (THANKS, You Guys!!)
So email marketing and socializing in forums will send traffic to your website and all those people will wave at Google for you, getting you noticed not just by Google but by other search engines as well.
Social Media Optimization
So how does visiting on forums get Google's attention? I'm not really sure but I do know that I've seen my words and my name jump out at me sometimes. When I search for certain keywords, there I am - my comments show up now and then. A word to the wise, stay professional at all times in forums.
Also if you are active in forums, people will check your profile and then click on your site there. Several backlinks to your website or blog from hight ranking sites like Facebook or BetterNetworker can really get Google's attention, especially lately.
Things are changing with SEO. I get a few visitors wholink frommy profile pages fromTwitter, Facebook andBetterNetworker.I can see that in my traffic stats here at Squarespace. It's what many people are calling SEO 2.0 - orsocial media optimization.
So here's my Terrific Traffic Tip for today - write something and then get out there and socialize about it. Post the link on Twitter, bookmark it at Digg, and put it in your status blurb at BetterNetworker and Facebook. Then get ready to say Hi to Google!

Terri You don't have to envy any expert - Your Blog is as informative as anything I have been reading for a long while. If the time spend on your blog is any indication you deserve a much higher grading than you have at present - but don't they say algorithms follow people and show up with a time lag?
Hi Terri,
Very cool and insightful blog. I know in the case of my blogs, much of the traffic comes from the social media sites and social buzz. I have had a few occurrences of SEO driven traffic when I took the time to identify a few "well-targeted" keyword phrases but I have a lot to learn in that regard.
Thanks for the info and I hope all is well.
Best always,
Jim Hickey
Sometimes the simple stuff is the best. Good news about the PR. :)
Terri,
Your last paragraph is perfect: "write something and then get out there and socialize about it." Most people never write something. It's pretty easy ... they could just write a blog post about what they think of YOUR blog post here, how it fits with their experience. They can just lean on you. It's an easy, non-threatening way to get started.
